Guns N’ Roses had the potential to be the greatest hard rock band of all-time, but if there is a silver lining to be found in their premature demise, it is the teaming up of Slash (one of the premier guitarists of this generation) and Myles Kennedy (arguably the greatest singer of this generation). The title track to the new Slash (featuring Myles Kennedy & The Conspirators) album, “World On Fire,” was just released. If this track is any indication of what’s to come when the album comes out, then September 16th cannot come soon enough!
“World On Fire” arrives 27 years after the release of GNR’s Appetite For Destruction, but you would never believe that so much time has elapsed based on Slash’s brilliant guitar work. In fact, the title track, from this highly-anticipated release, could have easily been one of the songs featured on GNR’s timeless, classic, debut album.
A modern-day hard rock anthem, “World On Fire” combines the best elements of 1987’s “Night Train” and Alter Bridge’s 2013 classic, “Addicted To Pain,” proving once again that the songwriting team of Slash and Myles Kennedy is a force to be reckoned with in the hard rock music genre. One can only imagine the catalog that these two would have created if they had joined forces decades ago.
“World On Fire” is a different kind of hard rock anthem. Whereas many anthems have an ‘us against the world’ mentality, “World On Fire” is a high-octane ball of energy that is meant to inspire people, to show them that life is not meant to be lived inside of a comfort zone and that there is no time like the present to pursue your dreams. Too often, people fail to seize the day because they believe that the stars will align sometime in the future. However, anyone that has experienced a tragic loss knows full well that tomorrow is guaranteed to no one.
It isn’t often that a song comes out that you can listen to over and over again without getting bored. “World On Fire” is one of those songs. Crank it up, read the lyrics below the video, and get ready to be inspired by one of the best hard rock songs to come out in recent memory!
“World On Fire” lyrics
Well they say that we are tragic, and they say we’re born to lose
You’re the misfit, I’m the sinner…you’re the heathen, I’m the fool
But today you’ll be the master or the slave…it’s up to you
I’m a beautiful disaster, take me any way you choose
Don’t fight it…Ignite it
This much I’m sure
I think it’s time to set this world on fire (this world on fire)
I think it’s time to push it to the edge (to the edge)
Put it to the ground and trip the wire (just trip the wire)
It may never be this good again (ohhhhh)
It’s like a new a religion, speak in tongues, come see the light
To my trip on inhibitions, that will only waste my time
Let me tempt you with the evils of the flesh and so much more
Like a Babylon redeemer…like a pusher…like a whore
Just try it, you’ll like it, I’ll give you more
I think it’s time to set this world on fire (this world on fire)
I think it’s time to push it to the edge (to the edge)
Put it to the ground and trip the wire (just trip the wire)
It may never be this good again
It’s so dark, I can’t see, all the truth inside us
All I want is to feel something that’s real before the end
Close the door, turn the key, do you like…what you see?
Kill the lights, oh come to me
Set it off tonight, we’ll be just like fire and gasoline
I think it’s time you set this world on fire (this world on fire)
I think it’s time to push it to the edge (to the edge)
I’m so FUCKIN’ bored, so trip the wire (trip the wire)
It may never be this good again
Just trip the wire (just trip the wire)
This world’s on fire (this world’s fire)
Just trip the wire (just trip the wire)
It may never be this good again
[…] [1] “World On Fire” – Slash featuring Myles Kennedy & The Conspirators – It’s great to have a number one song that reaches the top before becoming “worn” from overuse. By the time the final verse rolls around, I’m almost starting to look forward to the next time I hear it. (see Hard Rock Daddy review). […]
