Every once in a while, a song gets played on SiriusXM’s Octane that stops you in your tracks because of its energy and unique sound. Crobot’s “Nowhere To Hide” is a classic example of a song that fits into this category.
Hard rock singers that rely on the powerful, soaring, signature vocals that defined the genre in the 70s and 80s are few and far between nowadays, which is why Brandon Yeagley’s singing immediately grabs your attention. If you didn’t know any better, you would swear that Myles Kennedy was fronting another kickass, hard rock band at the onset of “Nowhere To Hide,” but as the song progresses, Yeagley’s individual style shines through.
Yeagley’s impressive vocals are the perfect complement to the heavy groove of the Figueroa brothers (Jake – bass, Paul – drums) and Chris Bishop’s crunchy, bluesy, head-bobbing guitar riffs and leads. You’ll find yourself reaching for the dial to crank up “Nowhere To Hide” as you feel the palpable energy that leaves you no choice but to groove to the music blasting through your speakers. The song, from the Crobot’s self-titled EP, showcases the band’s influences which range from Black Sabbath and Led Zeppelin to Wolfmother and Clutch.
The band’s high-energy sound is tailor-made for the stage, and based on the reviews of their live performances, they are not to be missed when they come to a town near you. Even though they have only released a 4-song EP thus far (with a full-length album due out later this year), Crobot has a timeless, mature sound that makes you think that they have been around for decades. If “Nowhere To Hide” and the other songs on the EP are any indication of what’s to come in the future, this is a band that is likely to have the staying power of past hard rock legends.
