Five Finger Death Punch has just released “Lift Me Up” (featuring Rob Halford of Judas Priest) from their eagerly anticipated double album The Wrong Side of Heaven, The Righteous Part of Hell.
The original Metal God (Halford) joining forces with the modern-day Metal God (Ivan Moody) was a stroke of genius that has resulted in arguably the greatest duet in hard rock music history.
For many years, Halford has inspired fans with his incredible, distinct vocals and thought-provoking lyrics. Few singers can even be mentioned in the same breath as Halford when it comes to capturing the emotion of angst-ridden lyrics and delivering it with melodic rage. Moody does it as well as any frontman of this generation, which is one of the reasons that Five Finger Death Punch has launched itself into its own stratosphere when it comes to modern-day metal.
“Lift Me Up” gets your blood pumping from the opening note and doesn’t let up until the very last. Like many Five Finger Death Punch and Judas Priest songs, it awakens the rage inside you in a way that is inexplicably inspiring and cathartic.
“The song’s intent is to inspire,” according to Moody. “It was originally written about overcoming everyday obstacles and less-than-perfect situations. Most of us weren’t born with a silver spoon in our mouth, but if life dealt you all the wrong cards, you still have to play. If you play that hand right, you might just come out on top anyway.”
“Lift Me Up” is an anthem for the ages that will inspire generations of hard rock music fans.
After listening to “Lift Me Up,” Five Finger Death Punch fans will be counting down the days until July 23, 2013 when the first volume of The Wrong Side of Heaven, The Righteous Part of Hell is released.
“Lift Me Up” Lyrics
It ain’t no mystery
I’m all I have left
I’m pushing back and running you over
I’ve been thrown down, run around beaten till I hit the ground
Telling you right now that it’s over
There’s no room for mistakes
All the cards are in place
Say what you will, but say it to my face
Better back the fuck up, better shut the fuck up
I’ll do what I want and I’ll never give up
( I ) won’t be broken
( I ) won’t be tortured
( I ) won’t be beaten down
( I ) have the answers
( I ) can take the pressure
( I ) turn it all around
Lift me up above this, the flames and the ashes
Lift me up and help me to fly away
Lift me up above this, the broken, the empty
Lift me up and help me to fly away
Lift me up
I’m gonna change history
Enlighten the world
Teach them how to see through my eyes
I’m gonna lash back, check that
Fatal as a heart attack
Stomp out all the ugliest lies
You can’t convince me to change
We ain’t on the same page
I had my fill now there’s nothing but rage
Just get out of my way
Cause there’s nothing to say
Is that all you got?
Because I ain’t got all day
( I ) won’t be broken
( I ) won’t be tortured
( I ) won’t be beaten down
( I ) have the answers
( I ) can take the pressure
( I ) turn it all around
Lift me up above this the flames and the ashes
Lift me up and help me to fly away
Lift me up above this, the broken, the empty
Lift me up and help me to fly away
Lift me up
( I ) won’t be broken
( I ) won’t be tortured
( I ) won’t be beaten down
( I ) have the answers
( I ) can take the pressure
( I ) turn it all around
Lift me up above this, the flames and the ashes
Lift me up and help me to fly away
Lift me up above this, the broken, the empty
Lift me up and help me to fly away
Lift me up (to fly away)
Lift me up (to fly away)
Lift me up

I know what you mean. The song is filled with rage, but for some reason, it does “lift you up.” Thanks for commenting!
