PUBLISHER’S PICK OF THE WEEK (By Adam Waldman)
RADKEY – “Dark Black Makeup”
Their influences are all over the place. Their sound is not easily categorized, and they don’t care. It says as much in their bio…“Whether it’s hard and fast, or slow and groovy as fuck. Radkey does whatever they want, and that’s what rock and roll is all about.” I couldn’t agree more. There are plenty of bands that fit into a specific mold, especially when it comes to Active Rock radio. The end result is a sound that makes telling them apart from others challenging (to say the least). It takes balls to throw caution to the wind and let the chips fall where they may, and Radkey has a healthy set. This power trio of brothers – who “grew up in a shitty little pink house” in St. Joseph, Missouri – is simultaneously familiar and unique.
The punk edge on “Dark Black Makeup” is reminiscent of early Green Day. The vocals on the verses have the same vibe as “Still Counting” by Volbeat. Frontman Dee Radkey has a swagger to his baritone voice that oozes cool. Much like the first influence listed in the band’s bio – Jimi Hendrix – he is also the band’s guitarist. Backed by a funky rhythm section made up of his brothers Isaiah (bass) and Solomon (drums), this trio delivers an aggressive sound complemented by tight vocal harmonies that comes from the familial connection. If you’re looking for something interesting and different, Radkey’s “Dark Black Makeup” is strongly recommended.
PUBLISHER’S PREDICTIONS (by Adam Waldman)
Last week, the prediction was made that Seether’s reign at the top was about to end, but that they possibly had one more week left in their run. This week, they barely held onto the top spot, so their run will definitely end next week. Based on this week’s trend, it looks like Stone Sour will leapfrog Volbeat (f. Danko Jones) to get to the top. Metallica is also rising fast, and has a chance to leapfrog Volbeat as well. Unless there is a momentum shift, the foreseeable future looks to be a weekly battle between Stone Sour’s “Song #3” and Metallica’s “Now That We’re Dead” for the top of the chart.
HRD SPIN CONTROL (by Adam Waldman and Jon Loveless)
Each week, we will share the songs that we think should be added to rotations, alongside the songs that we feel should be dropped from rotations, either because they are a bad fit for the format, or because they have run their course and it’s time for a new single from the artist.

TRENDS AND OBSERVATIONS
Spin counts for the songs at the top of the chart are lower than usual, apparently caused by some stations being slow to come off of songs that are falling (meaning fewer spins available for those that are climbing).
